All About Hair Transplant

Men and women our days suffer from hair loss. Hair loss is not appealing, especially in women, and makes the person feel bad with his or her appearance.
There is variety of solutions offered in the market for those who are starting to lose hair and want to fix it but what about those who had already lost a massive amount of their hair? The common hair loss products won’t do any good to them; they need to restore their hair.

Once again even for those who want to restore their hair there is variety of solutions offered in the market, one of them is a hair transplant surgery. Before we talk about hair transplant a little further, let’s first understand the reasons for hair loss.

Hair loss is caused by the masculine hormone DHT which destroys the hair follicles in the center and front areas of the men’s head.

Women have the DHT hormone as well but when they are younger they have more estrogen which balances the amount of DHT and therefore are not affected by it.

When women get to their menopause age the amount of estrogen gets lower and the DHT starts to affect the follicles and destroy them. Not like men, the women’s baldness occurs on every part of the head and not just the front and center, which gives them thinner hair look.

The DHT hormone in men does not demolish the follicles on the side of the head and the back of the head and therefore it is possible to use the remaining hair in these areas in order to transplant a person’s own hair and restore its fuller hair appearance, not as it was before but better then it is.

There are a few techniques to perform the hair transplant:
1. Removing tiny skin implants from the back and side of the head and transplanting them in the bald parts.
2. Removing hair follicles and transplanting them in the bald parts.

Both procedures must be performed by a highly skilled professional plastic surgeon.

When suffering from loss of hair the most important thing is to consult a doctor or a specialist to make sure the loss of hair is not caused by something else like hormonal imbalance.

Permanent Hair Transplant Method

Most of the people think that baldness is a hereditary problem and there is no way to check hair loss. A non balanced diet, insufficient intake of vitamins and minerals, and UV radiations are the most probable causes of hair loss. However, the basic method of preventing hair loss is to take care of your hair. If you are suffering from baldness you can consider going for a permanent hair transplant with consultation of an expert.
What is permanent hair transplant?

Permanent hair transplant is one of the most popular surgical ways to restore hair. In the process of permanent hair transplant surgeons take a required quantity of hair from the back and sides of your head and implant them on the area of your head where hair loss is most severe.

Different methods of permanent hair transplant:

1. Strip method of Follicular Unit Transplantation: This is the most popular method of permanent hair transplant because it is the least expensive method. In a strip method a small piece of skin is removed from that region of head where hair growth is rich. Then, this area is sutured. After this, the donor strip is divided in small individual hair groups. Thousands of small slits are made in the bald area and unit hair groupings are placed into them. Vitamin supplements and volumizing shampoos are recommended. You can use creams to remove rash from the donor area of head. The hair transplant cost is comparatively high in this case.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction method of Permanent Hair Transplant: Follicular units are extracted from tiny puncture holes of the donor area. After this, the extracted tiny follicles are placed in the bald area of the head. After a few months new hair start growing from the transplanted area. Follicular unit extraction method is an affordable hair transplant method. In this process hair transplant cost is comparatively less.Often, 3 to 5 transplant sessions are required, with the cost ranging from $4000 to $1000. Curly and wavy hair looks denser and requires less hair transplant session to achieve a cosmetically acceptable look.

Generalized (diffuse) hair loss

Common conditions in this category are:

telogen effluvium (rapid shedding after childbirth, fever, or sudden weight loss)
androgenetic hair loss (”male-pattern baldness,” “female-pattern baldness”)
Telogen effluvium

Under normal conditions, scalp hairs live for about three years (the anagen, or growing, phase); they then enter the telogen, or resting, phase. During this three-month period, the hair root shrivels up into a small white “club,” then the hair falls out. It is therefore normal to lose about 100 hairs every day, more of them on days when shampooing loosens the hairs that are ready to fall out (generic propecia). The hairs are then replaced by the body. Sometimes people worried about losing their hair start noticing hairs on their pillow or in the sink, not realizing that they’ve always been there. A close look at these will usually reveal the white “club” at the end, showing that these hairs were already dead. Normally, about 10% of scalp hairs are in the telogen phase (generic propecia). There are several circumstances that produce a “shock to the system” that alters the hair growth rhythm. As a result, as much as 30-40% of the hairs can cycle into telogen. Three months later hairs come out in a massive shedding (effluvium), especially near the front of the scalp. These include:

childbirth
high fever
sudden weight loss (crash dieting, generic propecia))
surgery
None of these has to be life-threatening, nor does hair loss always follow them. (It can happen after one pregnancy but not the next, generic propecia.) But when the hair falls out, it’s all over the place–covering the pillow, clogging the drain, and so forth. Paradoxically, the more dramatic the hair loss, the better the prognosis, because when the body gets back into normal rhythm, most if not all of that hair comes back. No special treatment is needed. Normal shampooing can continue, because this only loosens hairs that were going to come out anyway.

Androgenetic alopecia (”male-pattern baldness,” “female-pattern baldness”) Everyone loses hair, but men do it better–faster, earlier, and more extensively. Doctors refer to common baldness as “androegentic alopecia,” which implies that a combination of hormones and heredity (genetics, generic propecia) is needed to develop the condition. (The male hormones involved are present in both men and women, generic propecia.)

Male-pattern baldness

Even men who never “go bald” thin out over the years. Unlike those with reversible telogen shedding, those with common male-pattern hair loss don’t notice much hair coming out; they just see that it’s not there anymore. Adolescent boys notice some receding near the temples as their hairlines change from the straight-across boys’ pattern to the more “M-shaped” pattern of adult men. This normal development does not mean they are losing hair.

Generic Propecia.Losing hair? A new drug may help; Propecia

When Generic Propecia hit pharmacy shelves this year, it brought to the balding population a huge promise–and plenty of questions. Here are the facts about the first and only hair regrowth pill. Does it work? Generic Propecia (generic name finasteride) shows great promise for men. In clinical trials of 1,879 balding men, more than 80% of those taking Generic Propecia experienced no hair loss during the two year period–even better, 66% showed hair regrowth. In some men, results were seen in three months, but it may take longer.

Unlike minoxidil (Rogaine), whose mechanism has never been understood, Generic Propecia’s success makes sense, says Ivan Cohen, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. Generic Propecia works by blocking the conversion of testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone that shrinks hair follicles–a key factor in male hair loss. By reducing DHT levels 60%, Generic Propecia can stop hair loss and in many cases trigger hair growth, explains Keith Kaufman, MD, of Merck Research Laboratories, Generic Propecia’s makers in Rahway, NJ.

Can women use it? Not if they’re of childbearing age, says Dr. Kaufman. Generic Propecia can cause birth defects when taken during pregnancy. In fact, pregnant women are discouraged from handling broken pills because the drug may be absorbed through the skin.

As for other women, the jury’s still out. Generic Propecia works by acting on hormones such as testosterone. Since women tend to have lower levels of this, the results may be different.

For women whose hair loss is due to high testosterone or low estrogen after menopause, there’s a chance Generic Propecia may work, says Dr. Cohen. A more definitive answer is on the way: Results of a study on post-menopausal women with thinning hair are expected later this year.

Are there side effects?

The only reported side effects are decreased libido and impotence, but they’re extremely rare. Only 1.8% of the men taking Generic Propecia experienced decreased libido, while 1.3% of those taking the placebo did. Of the men PAGE 8 Prevention June, 1998

taking Generic Propecia, 1.3% experienced impotence, while 0.7% of those taking the placebo did. Better news: When they stopped taking the drug, these side effects went away. And in roughly 60% of the men who continued taking it, side effects disappeared.

How much does it cost? A month’s prescription costs $ 45 to $ 49, or about $ 550 a year. It’s a lifelong investment. If you stop taking it, you’ll start losing your hair again.
